Beyond the peace and comfort of the villa lies an island full of breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches, charming villages and unique natural wonders. Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation or authentic Greek experiences, Kefalonia has something for everyone.

Assos Village

Approximately 35 km (45–50 minutes) from Karavados, Assos is one of the prettiest villages in Greece. Nestled around a horseshoe-shaped harbour, its pastel-coloured houses, waterfront tavernas and relaxed atmosphere make it a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. For panoramic views, take the walk up to the impressive Venetian Castle that overlooks the village.

Myrtos Beach

Often featured in lists of Europe’s most beautiful beaches, Myrtos Beach lies around 30 km (40–45 minutes) north of Karavados. Surrounded by dramatic white cliffs and famous for its dazzling turquoise waters, it is a must-visit during your stay. The viewpoint above the beach offers one of the most photographed vistas in Kefalonia.

Fiskardo

Located at the northern tip of the island, Fiskardo is approximately 50 km (75–90 minutes) from Karavados. One of the few villages to survive the devastating earthquake of 1953, it retains its beautiful Venetian architecture and cosmopolitan charm. Stroll along the picturesque waterfront, browse boutique shops, admire luxury yachts and enjoy a leisurely meal in one of the harbour-side restaurants.

Argostoli

The island’s vibrant capital is just 15 minutes from Karavados and well worth a visit. Stroll along the palm-lined waterfront, browse local shops and cafés, and watch the loggerhead turtles that are often seen around the fishing boats in the morning. In the evening, the harbour comes alive with restaurants and bars, making it a lovely place for a relaxed dinner and a sunset walk.

Petani Beach

Often described as Myrtos Beach’s quieter cousin, Petani Beach is around 45-50 minutes from Karavados on the Paliki Peninsula. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and famous for its crystal-clear turquoise water, it’s one of the most spectacular beaches on the island. Many locals consider its sunsets among the best in Kefalonia.

Dafnoudi Beach

Located close to Fiskardo, Dafnoudi Beach is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes from Karavados. Reached via a scenic woodland footpath, this secluded pebble cove is surrounded by unspoilt natural beauty. The clear waters are perfect for swimming and snorkelling, whilst the peaceful setting makes it feel like a hidden paradise.

Saint Thomas Beach

Just 5 minutes from Karavados, Saint Thomas Beach is a beautiful bay with golden sand, crystal-clear waters and great snorkelling. Ideal for families thanks to its gently sloping seabed, it also has a few seafront tavernas, making it perfect for a relaxing day by the sea.

Melissani Cave Lake

Around 30 km (40 minutes) from Karavados, the magical Melissani Cave Lake is one of Kefalonia’s most famous natural attractions. Visitors can take a small boat trip across the crystal-clear underground lake, where sunlight streaming through the cave roof creates extraordinary shades of blue.

Robola Wine Tasting

The Robola Cooperative Winery in the Omala Valley is one of the best places to sample Kefalonia’s famous PDO white wine. The vineyards sit on the slopes of Mount Ainos and offer lovely views, tasting sessions and insight into the island’s winemaking traditions

Day Trip to Ithaca

Take the ferry from Sami to Piso Aetos, Ithaca, for a fantastic day trip. Explore the charming harbour town of Vathi, the picturesque villages of Kioni and Frikes, and enjoy some of the quieter beaches and coves on Homer’s legendary island.

See Loggerhead Turtles

Head to Argostoli harbour early in the morning where loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) are frequently spotted around the fishing boats. During the summer months, lucky visitors may also see hatchling turtles emerging from nesting beaches as they make their way to the sea.

Dolphin Watching

Join a boat excursion from Sami, Fiskardo or Argostoli. Dolphins are regularly seen in the Ionian Sea, particularly on trips that venture further offshore towards Ithaca and neighbouring islands.

Mount Ainos National Park

Drive or hike up Mount Ainos, the highest mountain in the Ionian Islands at 1,628m. The national park is home to the unique Kefalonian fir tree, spectacular panoramic views across the Ionian islands, and even wild horses.

Drogarati Cave

One of Kefalonia’s most impressive natural attractions, Drogarati Cave features spectacular stalactites and stalagmites within a vast underground chamber believed to be over 150 million years old.
